The infamous "GLASS JAW" 10 bolt lmfao

See if youd been driving a ford youd have an almost bullet proof rear end!

Looks to me like you should have seen this coming a long time ago. That thing had to be howling like a dog. Were these new rear gears? If so id be checking who ever installed them and their credentials.

I just put 4.30's in my supercharged coupe and as long as you set the preload and back lash correctly it should of been good to go.

If this isnt a race vehicle or sporting some healthy power plant id grab another from a salvage yard freshen it up with new bearings and seals and fluid and probably clutch packs and call it a day.

Thats sucks bro that had to make all kinds of hellatious sounds i broke a cross pin in a 7.5 and it looked like a bomb went off in the housing.lol

I think the pinion bearing killed it!!! There is some gear oil slung under the car around the yoke, but not a lot because there was plenty of it still in the rear end. I think the bearing went bad and started to kill the yoke seal, but the yoke seal did not leak long before the pinion died!!!

They were Richmond gears 3.73, and they were installed some time around 1996-97.

For about 1yr i have noticed some HHHUUUUMMMMMMMM noise at about 60 mph .

THE FIX IS>> Search Results for sum741012 - SummitRacing.com >>>> Search Results for sumg7921 - SummitRacing.com

BRO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You gotta know better than that!

If you heard a hummmmmmmmmmmmm thats bearings or backlash issues causing the whine.Unless you run a blower like i do then you know...........lol

They were Richmond gears!!! and any time i asked some one about the HUMM i was told that i have Richmond gears and they are known to be noisy like that because of the way they are cut.. Then i asked my dad, why the hell did we put Richmond gears in because now i cant tell is something is going wrong.. The more i think about it, i think i did not noticed the HUMM until my 600w amp blew!! lol

cant say i only run frpp gears

the richmonds are a softer alloy than what come stock in them. so they wear faster too.

gotta love the 7.5 ten bolts.....I'm waiting for the one in my IROC to go up. I used GM gears and it was nice and quiet.....until I threw the nitrous at it. now it makes a little noise.

The race car might donate it's 9" for a little while until I can get another one bought. 35 spline axles and a spool may be a little much for a street car, but it'll be fun lol.

Only on turns!!!I:I

I got a mini spool for my 84 coupe when i swap in its 8.8 and i plan on running it on the street. Its only hard on tires on turns :o

I was thinking of taking the 9"+ axle off my bronco and modding it to fit my AT, but the 4.56 will kill the gas mileage, and i dont know what the detroit locker will drive like under the TA..

if you decide to do that, make sure that you have dies made that fit the ends, and the center to keep it all lined up while welding. I know you probably realize that, but it's imperative if you like keeping wheel bearings and seals in it lol.
