Airbox ???

okay 2 days ago i took my airbox lid off my 06' blaster..ran it up and down my street thinking it was ok then took it out to my local riding spot rode it for 30 mins to discover my fmf exhaust really heated, smoking from what i guess it caught fire or almost did X(?? so i put the lid back on and ran it again..nothing happened ran normal?? any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! thanxx

Removing your air box lid created a much LEAN condition, resulting in excess heat, etc, as you experienced. As stated above, you have to Jet up(fatter main jet) to compensate for all of the extra air. Yes, removing your airbox lid is a decent modification, to any 2 stroke motor, as more air equals more power. But, you do have to increase fuel to compensate for your mixture, and with running the lid off you also risk getting damaging debris into the engine, so beware of your riding conditions while running without a lid.

lid of should only have to go 1 up on the main.. 2 at most.

have you re-jetted for the fmf?

general rule of thumb.... do any mod to the airflow, in or out,
of an engine, and a rejetting is almost a must, at least do a plug read to see what it's tellin you

yuppers, the plug will tell ya exactly whats going on in the motor
