airbox cover??

Been doing a lot of reading around this site lately and noticed that it seems like lots of you run an airbox cover??? Seems like the general consensus is that you should keep it on just maybe drill some holes??

Neither of my blasters have airbox covers. They get ridden through mud, water (not too deep), etc. whatever the trail conditions happen to be. Should I worry?? They've been fine so far.

When i bought my blaster it didnt have an airbox cover, and, I didnt even know that it was susposed to. But anyways, I later bought a K&N filter and they recomend that you remove the air box lid. I have been running my K&N for about ayear now and have had no problems running without the cover. I also ride muddy trails, and through rivers and creeks. Somtimes water gets into the air box and i just drain it out! I just make sure to check it every once in a while when I am riding in those conditions.

Also, my brother d.jackson_12 has 2 stock air box covers if you would like to buy them if you are that concerned.

generally an airbox cover is to keep dirt out of the air box, but many people remove them because the flow is much better if you do.
personally, i clean my air filter every 2 rides, so i would definitely roll without one. also, most dirt bikes do not come with one, its not that big of a deal to pull one off. just after you do, fatten up your main a little bit and you're golden

i dont run one either. i have K&N with an outerwears cover on it and its fine. i clean my air filter often though to ensure it stays in top shape and never gets too dirty. every other ride or so. but im in the desert and the fine sand will kill a motor fast of you dont clean and oil the filter often.

Yeah, I'm used to ditching the airbox cover. Not sure on the jetting on these quads...they run good, but I guess I should check them. Not gonna have time until after the 30th when I close on my new house!! My neighbors are going to love me!! I was just asking because a bunch of the posts I've been reading people keep saying not do remove the airbox cover...and I was like, I think that the airbox covers were the first thing to get removed!! Depending on where I ride I clean the airfilter pretty frequently. Winter riding is key...no dust when the ground is covered in snow!! I forget if I have twin or uni....either way their dual stage foam filters. I just picked up some fresh ones too.

Where would I find an outerwear box cover that you speak of?? Back in the day I used to put panty hoes (sp?) over the filter when I went to the sand pits, it worked wonders!! Now they sell basically the same thing, filter skinz I think they call em? Are you talking about something made out of similar material that just covers the airbox??? That would be cool!

same as fabb, when i got my blaster, it had no lid, i had no idea they acualy were supposed to have lids. hust remeber to take off that plug in the bottom every once in a while or after you giver hard through some mud or water.

Anyone have any ideas what size jet you should be running without the airbox cover? My motor is basically stock and has the 230 jet.

Not many people knew this..I build Streetbikes and 4 wheelers.I know EVERYTHING about jets and carbs you can think of..But removing an airbox cover will draw in WAY to much air..With anything really..It will be hard to determin the jet size needed.I would go up to a 235...With that airbox lid off you will be fouling plugs ALot faster to hard to tell what size jets you will need..It all depends on how you ride.Harder or softer on the Throttle.Softer= stick with your current jet.If you ride harder Just move up
