I was particularly interested in the golf balling of the piston for added oil retention.


I thought that was interesting too..

I just realized this was written published in 1969,, Waaaaaaay before my time. :p
 
All I can say is WOW. What were you searching to run acrossed that?

Old school for sure. This was a couple years before Gorden Jennings published his book.
Jennings had a better method of oil retention. Cross hatching the piston with emery cloth, looked simular to honing in the cyl.
 
I cut my teeth on some of that stuff way back in 1955, when the length of the header pipe stub was cut to length to tune it!

Where stuffing of the crank with Epoxy was the norm!

Where powerbands were fitted around the twist throttle to stop your gloves slipping.

It was all seat of the pants, ass Dyno in them days!
