400ex Rear Shock for Cross Country?

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on a 400ex rear shock for XC racing, harescrambles, woods racing. I have stock now and have been told the 400ex shock would be too stiff, but haven't ridden one myself obviously. I need something that is gonna be good in tight woods and lots of gnarly terrain(rocks, more rocks, mud, creeks, hill climbs) but I don't do much jumping, just a few feet here and there. Anyway, all input is GREATLY APPRECIATED and thanks a ton in advance. I:I

if you had a longer swingarm it would be great cause the added leverage, im guessing it would be rather stiff, im gonna be running a yzf450 rear shock, it will be stiff!

sure thing, i was thinking of having my dad weld in a 3" section on my swing arm but i jump alot and am not sure whether it will hold up or not, if you dont jump much it should be fine, im just an idiot and likes to think the blaster can clear 60' tabletops lol, it hurts let me tell ya!

I'll post some pics when I get to fabricating. I'm going to get a "rolling chassis" this weekend and start tearing it down. I'm gonna do a frame-up restoration......gussett and reinforce the frame, fab up the +4 swinger and reinforce it, got a 400ex rear shock on the way(I think), gonna try to do something up front suspension wise(not sure what, yet), probably gonna get one of those gforce adj axles, do a little port & polish work, and whatever else the budget allows, lol..................so I'll be putting up a ton of pics in the next few months hopefully!

until i convinced my mom to buy me a arms, i was going to fab up som 08 raptor 700 a arms on my blaster but now im getting the ones in my sig, im definately going to gusset the frame if my dad brings home the wire welder, stick cost too much, wire is cheap, make sure you make the area under the seat the strongest first, that part always cracks
