Blaster wont start just pops.new reeds new top end with 6 hours on it.120 psi compression. New carb. I have the stock 230 main jet with pro circuit pipe and silencer. Air box cover is off. When i kick it it just pops. Is the the 230 main jet to small and preventing it from starting. I want to get it running so i can go to upstate ny and ride. Please help!!!!!!

Well the main is definetly to small! You should be in the 270 range. Do not run it again with that 230 in there. Now this shouldnt effect starting. Have you cleaned the carb, and checked float level? Is the tors removed?

X-2 on rejetting X(. What do you mean by "just pops". Do you have good blue spark? Have you tried new plug? What did old plug look like? Did you turn fuel on?

If you have put 6 hours of riding it with a #230 main jet in there, I would suspect some sort of damage to the piston.

Maybe the spark plug electrodes have been damaged by excess heat caused by detonation.

Although the #230 should not stop it from starting, you should have at least a #300 - #310 main in there.

Has a leak test been done since assembly, if so how much pressure did it hold and for how long.

Has the head and jug been re tensioned after heat cycles.

Ok 120psi compression. Riding down my driveway when it stalled. I had a 360 main jet in it at the time. We have a new spark plug in it and it has good spark. My mechanic cleaned the carb and checked float all good in there. THe tors is removed fuel on and key on. He says it needs a rebuild. It is letting to much fuel in. HELP PLEASE

I'm confused! You had a 360 in it? That's way to rich for you mods. So then you decided to put in a 230 main, a jet that will fry your motor? If you have 120 psi on your compression gauge it's not time for a top end rebuild. My guess would be your float level is wrong. If you put 6 hours on that motor with a 230 jet and you still have good compression I would check the float. And your mechanic says it's time for a rebuild because it's getting to much fuel. Incorrect float adjustment can cause a rich condition. Sounds like you need a new mechanic. Get or build yourself a leak tester, check the reeds, check float level, clean carb, and set air screw to 1.5 turns out. Chek these things and report back. DO NOT RIDE IT WITH THE 230 JET! You will need to order a 270, 280, 290, and 300 main jets. Then you will have to plug chop. If you don't understand something I've said just type it in the search box.

I know how you feel man my blaster needs a fresh top end to be put in it too:( when mine blew up i was in the middle of riding like usual and it just went brrrrrrmmmm and stopped. i was riding in the winter and later found that the reason for my piston melting was because of improper jetting. The previous owner of my machine had a K&N filter put in and never jetted for it also i should have upped my jetting for the cold. it sucks that this happens for such a dumb reason but now i know and i'm sure you do too. plug chops are sooooo helpful to correct your jetting believe me the people on this site say a lot of useful stuffI:I

This popping you mention, could the crankcase be flooded?

Take the spark plug out and check if it is very wet, if so with the plug out, kick the crap out of it to expell
all the gas buildup.

I had a 360 in it. 6 hours of riding on top end. Brmmm and it stopped with the 360 in it. Yes it does flood the crankcase

Turn off the fuel, dump the fuel out of the drain on the carby bottom.

Take the spark plug out. Hold throttle wide open and kick the motor over lots to get all the gas up and out of the plug hole.

You may need to tow it a little distance in gear to get more motor spin if kicking wont clear it.

Set the float level and make sure the carb is clean and not flooding.

Fit a new plug and try to start it....... Beware do not rev it for 30 seconds or so, as the bottom end may be washed free of oil from the gas buildup.

Do not use the #230 jet, the #360 will be the better jet to use, it only comes into play at WOT.

Is this where the slide hight is supposed to be ? There is a gap under neith no start condition fresh rebuild on carb 290 jet needle clip in middle position brand new reeds and gaskets 125-130 psi compression blue spark and wet plug still won't start ?????
