1st and 2nd gear

ok went to ride the blaster (first time its been rode synce the rebuild) but the shifter will only go up or go down it doesent go back to where its suposto if you shift up it stays up it doesent go back down and when i tore the motor appart the first time the bar was bent to hell i had to beat it out with a hammer but my dad took it to work and had it straghtend any ideas the bar will slide throuh the hole most of the way and then i thve to tapp it the rest of the way with a rubber mallet

you need a new shift rod, and possibly the shift star, detent arm.
it has to freely return to it's nuetral position or it will not shift to the next gear,

find the problem and replace it before riding it again. or you're going to possibly have tranny problems

springs ok its not broken

thats what im thinking but wanted to get everybodies 2 cents in on whats wrong

Take the clutchcover off and try shifting by hand. It will be a little tricky but hopefully you can see a problem. Fyi the cover holds the shaft in all the way so you might need help. If its bent it could just be hamming and not turning freely
