hey guys, im thinking about getting a lt250r and would like to know what everyone's reviews are about them. It was fully rebuilt in 2009 and has been taken care of, but i want to know how reliable and powerfull they really are.

Thanks.

I know they dont have a powervalve but they still got to be just as nice as the 87-92???? Its $1500. I think thats a good deal on a bike that comes with a complete 2nd motor????? I just want to know how fast and reliable they are?

Everything is relative.

A non PV LT250 is going to have more power than a factory yamaha blaster anyway. It's just that the 85-86 LT250R didn't have as much power as the 87-92.

The price is also relative, as novis said. If the quad is in excellent shape (rebuild done right) and comes with spare parts $1,500 may not be too unreasonable. I think most people advertise a little bit more than they are actually willing to take for it so you may be able to get it for a little bit less than $1,500.

Pics would help!

yeah the motor is the same year. It is a big bore.
He said that he didnt put that motor in because he wanted to keep the machine as stock as possible...... it also comes with a second carb, swing arm, original shocks, original manuals, heal guards, nerf bars, set of tires, original wheels. He told me that he took the machine in to get the motor worked on.

My next question would be "why?".

86 is non pv, the crappier front end. but it is super light. i think they weighed in at sub 330. but it is still better than a blaster. just have to think, parts are not easy or cheap.

I'm not positive on the 86 dry weight, but the 85 weighed in at 293lbs dry. The 85 and 86 are pretty much the exact same though.

Do you have any pics of the machine? Also, I'd be weary about the other motor being a big bore.

Well, I got the 250r. The only thing im having problems with is backfiring. When you pin it it will backfire alot but not die. It idles fine and if your going slow but as soon as you give it 1/2 - full throttle it sometimes backfires. What could that be??? running lean??

85-86 sucked due to the front end, no powervalve and the reeds are under the jug, my 01 blaster with just a fmf pipe ran side by side with a 85 lt250r... my 88 hands down spanks the piss out of both, and back firing could be jetting issues, or timing
