I have a 2002 Blaster that is stock. I bought it used and it needed a bit of work. I replaced the piston and rings, rebuilt the carburetor with a rebuild kit from the local yamaha dealer and cleaned the filter. It has the original TORS intact and I tested it (following instructions from online and via youtube) and it seems to be functioning correctly. I set the carburetor in Arizona the way the manual indicated and it ran alright there. Now I am in the midwest (IL) and when it runs it runs for a few minutes but it hitches a bit when running (jerky acceleration). It smokes when started and after a few minutes it will die and does not want to start. It takes about 15-20 minutes before it is willing to start again (with the choke) and will run for a bit and die again. After a bit it will foul a plug. I smell gas after it dies, like it is flooded or something. The oil intermixer still works on this bike and is still hooked up. I do not wish to modify the quad (TORS or intermixer) as I want to get rid of the thing, but I need to know why it is doing this. I am not very experienced with two-stroke work. Is this simply a carb adjustment, a TORS adjustment (assuming that big screw head on top of the carb is the TORS adjustment), a jetting problem coming back to the midwest, or some other problem? Any ideas?

well im in ill. and have 2 1/2 blasters, another week and ill have 3 blasters.

1 is stock and 1 has fmf fatty and power core and oil injection block off.

stock-230 main, 32.5 pilot jet, tors, 2 1/2 turns out aprox. 1 1/4 turn on mixture screw.

Now, it sounds like you might be running rich or need to look at the float bowl and insure you did get that set right.

Your plug sounds like its fouling and take a look at those reeds, make sure they in good working order and no gaps in them !

Other then those tips. for, if its a issue to coming here.

Make sure you got the carb boots, ect sealing right and tight.

If you have not done a leak down test or did not replace the seals when you did the top end. It may be time to check that out.

And opps, ya got the needle on 3rd (middle clip).

The odd thing, is if you came from arizona, i would think coming here, you would run leaner, not richer. ill humidity is the big issue.

But replace that spark plug ! for starters, its toast !

If your float level is correct and the idle is adjusted right, it would pay to do a leak down test to see if the crank seals are airtight.
